Aurora Gilbert
Holistic Health Nut and Fitness Competitor
Hi, I’m Aurora Gilbert, a self-confessed holistic health nut who is inspired by healthy living and helping others to easily integrate more health and fun into their everyday lifestyle.
I was inspired by health from a young age as my parents are health oriented and attended a specialist high school for dancing. In my thirties I largely focused on boxing and strength and conditioning training, and competing in amateur boxing.
At the start of 2015 I set myself a new goal to compete as a Fitness Competitor within the Body Building industry. I wanted to be the healthiest version of myself possible so I have taken a holistic approach to competing, largely focusing on nourishing my body with wholesome nutrient dense nutrition alongside training and mindful meditation practices.
My diet has always consisted of lots of superfoods, wholefoods and good fats, however for training I focus on an even cleaner diet consisting of very similar foods to pre-competition; increasing my good fats and increasing protein, balancing the correct ratio of fats, protein and carbohydrates – macronutrients and micronutrients.
I have found the most effective way to assist the body in building muscle and staying lean has been consuming foods abundant in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, whilst keeping the body as alkalized as possible. Through intense training the body becomes acidic , so for me it is important to keep the body alkalized for maximum recovery, rebuilding at a cellular level and general health and well being I use a raw vegan source of protein powder, cold pressed superfood protein smoothies, lots of nutrient dense wholefoods, especially green leafy vegetables as all vegetables contain protein, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that powerfully alkalize the body.
My belief is that our body is a complex engine and if we put the correct fuel/nutrients into our ‘engine’ then it will excel.
A great deal of my regime involves processes of query, mindfulness and attention to action, thought (self talk) and emotions whilst experientially undertaking intense physical activity. I firmly believe that the benefits of this training effect and psychological mindfulness transcend through all areas of life in general not just physical training and exercise. Hence, I begin to observe great improvements and growth holistically, not just physically.
